FAQ

(Frequently asked questions)

  • How does micropigmentation differ from microblading?

Micropigmentation uses the highest level of machinery and instrumentation in order to simulate hair strokes or make-up application.  While "microblading" uses free-hand blades to apply pigment (colouring) to the skin, micropigmentation is controlled safely with fine-tuned equipment to provide accurate precision.  Therefore, this modern technique effectively limits scarring, pain, and colour deviation.  At MPC, we use the highest level materials specially imported from Europe.

  • how is our semi-permanent tattoo different from a regular body tattoo?

There are many differences between our method of tattooing versus an artistic body tattoo.  Most important to note is that body tattoos use larger needles that are inserted deep in the dermis and are considered permanent.  Our pigment is placed in a much more superficial (shallow) layer under the skin using a very fine needle.  All our pigments are manufactured in Europe, are hypoallergenic and do NOT contain any metallic substances.  Our scalp/hair pigments are charcoal based and our lipstick hues are purely organic.

  • What is my first step before receiving micropigmentation at mpc?

The first step involves an initial consultation where you will visit with one of our technicians.  This is important to plan your design, perform an allergy test, complete a health history, and provide you with an overall price estimate.  We will also book your application date which is about 1 week after the allergy patch test.

  • does this treatment hurt?

Whenever possible, a topical anesthetic (freezing cream) will be applied well before the design stage and again before the application of the pigment. Clients generally rate their pain about 2/10 and often fall asleep during treatment.  Please let us know if you are experiencing a higher level of pain during treatment so that we can re-apply additional topical anesthetic.

  • what do i need to do to prepare for a treatment?

We recommend you arrive for your appointment well nourished and hydrated.  Please avoid alcohol, drugs, caffeine, and blood thinners (e.g. Aspirin) within 12 hrs of your treatment.  Leading up to your appointment date, do not wax, suntan, or apply chemical ointments to the area being tattooed.  Come prepared to relax for a few hours during your treatment!

  • what qualifications do our technicians have?

Our technicians are specially trained and certified in the art of micropigmentation.  They also contain a valid blood-borne pathogens certification for body artists.

  • is there a recovery time after my treatment?

After treatment, you will be given after-care instructions on how to care for your skin.  It takes about one month for your skin to fully heal after treatment.  The healing cycle includes a darkening stage first, followed by lightening, then settling into the true pigment chosen for you. It is very important to return to us for a touch-up appointment/assessment about 6 weeks after the initial treatment where pigment can be refined and reach its full potential.

  • is this treatment tailored to my own needs/preferences?

Yes, absolutely.  Every client is unique and we pay special attention to your own taste, as well as choose a pigment and design that best suits your needs.  During the initial consultation, we will prepare a design together with you before any treatment takes place.

  • How long will my semi-permanent make-up last?

Your micropigmentation treatment (semi permanent tattoo) lasts up to 2 years.  This depends on many factors (e.g. sun exposure, age, skin type, and location).  We understand that your appearance, preferences, and styles change over time.  When 1-2 years have passed, simply return to us for a touch-up or a new design if you prefer.

  • How long does it take to perform my treatment?

Your treatment varies in length depending on the surface area being treated.  Generally about 2.5 hours are devoted to completing your service.

  • How much will my treatment cost?

Your initial consultation fee is built into the cost of treatment.  Please refer to Reservations & Pricing for price estimates depending on the type of service you are receiving.  This is an estimate only, as pricing will vary depending on the surface area being treated.  At least one touch-up appointment is usually necessary for optimal results.
